Your rucks are yours.
Your routes, your stats, your health data — they belong to you, and we treat them that way. Here’s exactly how Ruckus keeps them safe, in plain English.
We will never sell your personal data
Ruckus is paid for by subscriptions — $1.99/month or $19.99/year. Because you pay for the app, we never have to sell your data, track you for profit, or hand you or your rucks to data brokers.
What we collect — and why
We only collect what it takes to make the app work. That’s it.
Your location — only while you ruck
We track your route while a ruck is running, to draw the map and measure distance. The moment you finish, tracking stops. We're not following you around.
Health data — to power your stats
With your permission, we read heart rate and body weight (from Apple Health or Health Connect) to sharpen your calories and show live heart-rate zones. Never for ads.
Your phone number — to sign you in
It's how you log in, and — only if you choose — how friends can find you. No password required.
Crash & usage data — to fix bugs
When something breaks, we get a crash report so we can fix it. Usage analytics are tied to a random ID, not your phone number — and never sold.
What we will never do
- Never sell your personal data.
- Never track you across the web, or hand your data to advertisers.
- Never sell you or your rucks to data brokers.
- Never use your rucks, routes, or health data to target you with ads.
The one exception, spelled out in our Privacy Policy: if Ruckus is ever acquired, your account could move to the new owner as part of the sale — bound by these same promises. That’s a business changing hands, not us selling your data as a product.
How your data is protected
Locked to your account
Your rucks, routes, and profile are tied to your account. Other users can't read them — you only share what you choose to, like with friends you add.
Encrypted in transit
Everything your phone sends to our servers travels over HTTPS/TLS — the same kind of encryption your bank uses — so no one can snoop on it along the way.
No password to leak
You sign in with your phone number and a one-time code. There's no password to be guessed, reused, or spilled in someone else's data breach.
Real infrastructure, not buyers
We use trusted providers to run the app — Supabase for the database, Mapbox for maps, Sentry for crash reports, PostHog for anonymous usage. They're tools we pay for, not buyers of your data.
You’re in control
You choose what to share and with whom — friends only see what you connect with them.
You can turn off location, contacts, or health access anytime in your phone’s settings.
And you can permanently delete your account and your data whenever you want, right in the app.
Built by one accountable person
Ruckus isn’t a faceless company with a data-hungry business model. It’s one person’s project — so when it comes to your privacy, there’s a real human standing behind these promises. Read the story →
